HP : Shrinking of Opposition not good for democracy - Shanta Kumar

Palampur Apr 27 ( UNI) Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Shanta Kumar on Saturday said the shrinking of opposition is not good for the health of democracy.
Shanta Kumar, a former Union Minister said BJP may express satisfaction over this matter but it will not be good for the health of democracy of this country.
Shanta Kumar said the Congress during the time of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawahar Lal Nehru was the one party that struggled the most to liberate the country and now the Congress is shrinking and soon going to become a history.
He said earlier there was high demand for Congress party tickets in the entire country but today the ticket demand has decreased completely. He said in small states like Himachal, Kangra-Hamirpur BJP candidates have been campaigning for many days but Congress has still not been able to decide on the candidate.
He said the biggest reason for the destruction of Congress is familyism. He said the party which gave leadership to the entire country remained limited to one family for many years. He claimed that there were many capable national leaders in the Congress, if any of them led the party, Congress would not have been in this condition today.
Shanta Kumar said out of 76 years after independence, Congress ruled the country for 54 years and now it has shrunk to such an extent that it could not even get the recognition as an opposition party in the 2014 and 2019 elections.
He said 54 MPs were required for recognition but Congress could win only 44 seats in 2014 and 52 in 2019.
He said some people are leaders by nature and they lead slowly and leaders cannot be made like any object. He said that those who have special abilities by birth or caste become leaders. Shanta Kumar said Congress is repeatedly trying to make Rahul Gandhi the leader only because of nepotism.
Shanta Kumar said that the most worrying thing in this matter is that Congress is the only party in the entire country that has an all India presence. and the rest parties belong to one state or one family. He said India's democracy would become without opposition due to the shrinking and dying of Congress due to dynasticism.
