Hold elections on time, opposition parties request poll panel

Lucknow, Dec 28 (UNI) A team of Election Commission of India led by Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra held meeting with the representatives of different political parties in Lucknow on Tuesday.
Almost all the opposition parties, including Samajwadi Party (SP), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Congress requested the ECI team to hold Uttar Pradesh assembly elections on time.
BSP delegation including Mewalal Gautam, R.A. Mittal and Jameel Akhtar met the ECI team and handed over the party's memorandum. The party in its memorandum has stated, "Elections are considered as a festival in democracy. It's a democratic and constitutional tool to make the power responsible through one person, one vote. Therefore no hindrance should be allowed and the elections should be held on time."
