Himachal remembers victims of 1905 earthquake through social media

Kangra, Apr 4 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh government on Saturday remembered and paid tributes to the thousands of people of Kangra valley who were killed this day in a devastating earthquake 115 years ago in 1905, by organising a tribute campaign on social media.
The reason for launching this campaign on social media was because social gatherings are not allowed and the town was under curfew due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Messages were carried on social media giving details of this earthquake which measured 7.8 on the richter scale, and lasted for two minutes but killed 10,527 residents of Kangra town alone.
The famous Bajjreshwari temple was completely destroyed in the earthquake which also damaged the Kangra Fort and also the Laxminarayan temple housed inside the fort. The photographs of the destruction caused by the earthquake were circulated in the social media as part of the tribute.
