HC extends stay on demolition of old secretariat buildings

Hyderabad, July 13 (UNI) Telangana High Court on Monday extended stay on the demolition of old Secretariat buildings till July 15.

It may be mentioned that the High Court on Friday last had directed the government to stop the

demolition of the buildings in the secretariat complex after hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Prof P.L.Vishweshwar Rao ,Vice President of the Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) charging that the demolition of the buildings was taking place in violation of the Disaster Management Act and the Epidemic diseases Act.

The High Court also directed the state Advocate General to furnish the details of the Cabinet decision, in a sealed cover, regarding the demolition of the old secretariat buildings.

In its Counter affidavit, the government had informed the HC that all statutory rules required for the demolition were followed.

Chennai, Aug 07 (UNI) Tamil Nadu recorded the highest single-day spike in deaths due to coronavirus, with 119 patients succumbing to the disease on Friday, taking the toll to 4,690 while the cumulative tally of positive cases mounted to 2,85,024 with 5,880 fresh infections.
