Haryana Assy polls: Punjab, Raj govts declare dry day in border areas

Chandigarh, Oct 14 (UNI) In view of the security arrangements during the October 21 Haryana assembly elections, as per the directives of the Election Commission of India, the governments of Punjab and Rajasthan have issued orders to declare a dry day in the border areas of Haryana 48 hours ending with the hour fixed for conclusion of poll.
Giving information in this regard, Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Agarwal said that on October 10, the Election Commission in a meeting of officials of security agencies taken by the Commission in Chandigarh had directed to issue this order and following the Election Commission directions, Punjab and Rajasthan governments have issued orders to ban the sale and distribution of liquor in neighboring areas of Haryana. Apart from this, similar orders will also be soon issued by Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, and Chandigarh.
Mr Agarwal said that adequate arrangements have been made by all security agencies to ensure law and order remains in place in the State and to conduct the elections peacefully. He said that police blockade is going on across the state and the movement of liquor, cash amount and other items used to lure voters are also being monitored.
