Govt to pursue matter of returning surplus land under BBMB project: CM Thakur

Shimla, Feb 11 (UNI) Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Monday said the government would pursue the matter of returning surplus or unutilised land, acquired by BBMB (Bhakra Beas Management Board) for Beas Satluj Link project.
While intervening on the issue during the question hour, the CM said that there are provisions in the Land Acquisition Act 1894 and 2013 to return the surplus or unutilised land acquired for any project by the government.
"We would pursue the matter to return the surplus land as the provision exists in the act. We know that BBMB project has surplus land and the housing colony which is laying vacant along with project," Mr Thakur said.
Earlier, replying to joint query raised by MLA Rakesh Jamwal of Sundernagar and MLA Vinod Kumar of Nachan, Power Minister Anil Sharma said,"The information received from BBMB described that there is no surplus land laying vacant and 321.93 acre land is acquired by the company for establishment of township at Sundernagar."
However, the power minister accepted that there is matter of fact that surplus land is available under the project and its colony is laying vacant even after the commissioning of the project.
Mr Sharma said, "The government will start proceeding of returning of land to the farmers under the new land acquisition act."
Intervening into the issue, CM Thakur said that there are provisions in land acquisition act to return the land if they remain unused.
