Kochi, Jul 9 (UNI) Key accused in the gold smuggling case Swapna Suresh filed anticipatory bail plea in the Kerala High Court through online on Wednesday night.
The Court will take up her anticipatory bail plea on Friday.
In the bail plea, Swapna, who has been absconding for the last five days, mentioned that 'she has no connection to the gold smuggling case and has no criminal background'.
Swapna said she had acted as per the instructions of UAE diplomat Rashid Khamis. When the baggage could not be cleared at the cargo complex in Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, Rashid asked her to contact the customs officials.
Based on this, she contacted the custom officials, Swapna mentioned in her plea.
Swapna revealed that there was an attempt to send back the baggage after realising that the gold was about to be seized. Rashid requested her to prepare a request to send back the baggage and she prepared and mailed it to Rashid on July 3, she said.
The Certificate from the consulate general regarding my qualification is not fake. Though I had resigned from the job in UAE consulate, it used to entrust me with some responsibilities during the COVID times as I am experienced in the works, Swapna stated.
