Fierce encounter ensues b/w militants, security forces in Kupwara forest

Srinagar, May 16 (UNI) A fierce encounter ensued between militants and security forces in the forest areas in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara on Thursday.

Official sources said that following specific information about movement of militants, a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of state police, the Army and CRPF in the upper reaches of Kandi forests, Kupwara in north Kashmir.

When security forces were moving towards a particular area, the militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons. 'The security forces retaliated, ensuing in an encounter,' they said.
