Kolkata, Jun 13 (UNI) In a new turn of event, defying Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's four-hour
ultimatum to striking doctors either to join work or face punitive action, if necessary invocation of
ESMA, junior doctors at the state-run NRS Medical College and Hospital today remained firm to
continue with their agitation, while several senior doctors decided to resign en masse, even as three
patients died in absence of treatment.
Meanwhile, a report North Bengal said said some 15 patients died at the North Bengal Medical college and Hospital in the past 24 hours where also the doctors joined in the strike expressing solidarity with their fellow colleagues at the NRS.
However, an official communication is awaited from the North Bengal hospital regarding the number of deceased and the causes.
A separate report said some eight senior doctors at Sagar Dutta Memorial Hospital at Kamarhati in North 24 Parganas threatened to quit the job in support of their junior colleagues.
A six-member delegation of junior medics this afternoon rushed to Raj Bhawan, seeking Governor K S Tripathi's intervention after they received ultimatum from the Chief minister.
