Covid-19:Karnataka brings back 2,442 labours stranded in Maharashtra

Bengaluru, Mar 30 (UNI) Karnataka government has brought back 2442 labourers from Maharashtra in 62 buses, in the backdrop of nation-wide Lock down following COVID-19 outbreak, an official statement said on Monday.
Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had urged migrant labours not to leave the State and had assured that the Maharashtra government will look after their interests. However, the state government arranged 62 buses and brought back 2442 labourers hailing from Karnataka on Sunday, the statement said.
Hundreds of migrants, a majority of whom are daily wage workers started walking back to their native places from different states amid uncertainty over their livelihood following the announcement of a 21-day nationwide Lock down by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week in order to contain the spread of novel Corona Virus.
