Cash, ornaments, & liquor worth Rs. 8.40 cr seized in Himachal

Shimla, April 22 (UNI) Illicit liquor, cash, drugs, and jewellery worth around Rs. 8.40 crore have been seized since the Model Code of Conduct (MMC) came into force in Himachal Pradesh ahead of the Lok Sabha polls and bye-elections to the six assembly constituencies, an election official said on Monday.
Stating this here, a spokesperson of the State Election Department said that the police department has seized cash worth Rs. 24.76 lakh and 65 grammes of gold and silver ornaments worth Rs. 3.35 lakh.
The excise department also impounded 396655 litres of illicit liquor worth Rs. 5.80 crore. Till date, 37 kilograms of charas worth Rs. 74.63 lakh and 1.55 kilograms of heroin amounting to Rs. 1.08 crore have been impounded by the different enforcement agencies.
