BJP launches long-term Namami Musi River programme

Vikarabad, Dec 14 (UNI) Telangana BJP State President K Laxman on Saturday launched a long-term ''Namami Musi River'' (NMR) programme to mount pressure on the TRS government to take measures for effective abatement of pollution and its conservation and creating awareness among the people.
Addressing on the occasion after performing puja at Anantagiri in Vikarabad district Laxman appealed people to keep clean the river which is also known as a ''Telangana Ganga''.
Hyderabad’s once mighty river has been reduced to a giant sewer due to indiscriminate urbanisation and lack of proper planning besides open for untreated domestic and industrial waste.
There was a need to inculcate the spirit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who had launched a project to clean the our historic and sacred Ganga, he said.
Alleging that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao even did not keep his word of keeping Musi river clean and green, he said the party would continue the agitation till the government clean the Musi river spread in five districts of the state.
He said hundreds of villagers have been affected and suffering from various diseases due to pollution in Musi river who were living in 600 villages on the banks of the river on both sides.
Taking a dig at KCR, Laxman alleged that KCR had even promised to clean picturesque polluted Hussain Sagar and filled with coconut water. But Hussainsagar was getting polluted.
He warned that BJP would continue the agitation till the government fulfillment its promise of cleaning the Musi river.
As part of NMR agitation programme, the party leaders would visit Musi at Suryapet on December 17, he added.
Ex-MLC P Sudhakarn Reddy, Vikarabad district party president Prahlad Rao, Bhongiri district party president and Musi Prakshalana committee chairman Sham Sunder Rao, state party secretary Papa Rao and spokesperson N V Subhash were also present on the occasion.
