AP CM hints at abolishing Legislative Council

Amaravati, Jan 23 (UNI) The 'validity' in the continuation of the 'Legislative Council' came up for detailed debate in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy said that it was unfortunate for the Council to refer the Bills on decentralisation of administration and repeal of the Capital region Development Authority passed by the Assembly to a select committee and outlined the need for a discussion on the continuation of the Council. He said referring the bills to the ‘Select Committee’ was in violation of rules of the Assembly.
The Chief Minister said that the ‘Council was of no use’ when it was working with a political agenda and its continuation should be given a serious thought. He said the Council was there only to give suggestions and make recommendations and for adopting delaying tactics while dealings with the Bills that were referred to it.
