Srinagar, Sep 25 (UNI) Security forces foiled an infiltration bid when they gunned down two militants near the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday, a defence ministry spokesman said.
He said based on specific intelligence inputs received from Jammu and Kashmir Police and other intelligence agencies, of likely infiltration attempt in Macchal Sector.
The troops were put on high alert and joint ambushes of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army laid on likely routes of infiltration, the spokesman said.
He said at around 7.30 AM in the morning amid prevailing poor weather conditions, alert troops observed two armed infiltrators crossing the LoC near Tekri Nar, Macchal to this side.
“The infiltrating terrorists were engaged by own alert troops. Firefight ensued, resulting in both terrorists getting neutralized”, he said.
A large quantity of arms and ammunition including 2 AK 47 rifles, 6 AK magazines, 53 Ak 47 rounds, Two pistols, two pistol magazines, 35 pistol rounds, Pak currency Rs 1000 three notes, Rs 500 two notes, Rs 50 seven notes besides food items were recovered from the slain militants.
The identification and affiliation of the slain militants is being ascertained.
