Alert issued for people residing on banks of Periyar, Chalakkudy rivers

Kochi, Aug 14 (UNI) An alert has been issued to the people residing on the banks of Periyar and Chalakkudy rivers following heavy rains on Wednesday.
Sources said 80.27 mm rainfall was recorded in Ernakulam district till August 14 morning.
As many as 24 families were shifted to Neryamangalam GHSS on account of safety. The water level of both the rivers rose after releasing of water from Bhoothathankettu dam.
The shutters of Malankara dam, towards Moovattupuzha, were raised by 10 cm on Wednesday.
The water level of Chalakkudy river rose after the opening of the shutters of Peringalkuthu dam.

Defence production to be hit following workers strike
