74 have farmers committed suicide in Marathwada region since begining of 2018: Govt statistics

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Feb 8 (UNI) As many as 74 panic-stricken farmers have committed suicide in Marathwada region since beginning of the new year because of mounting debt and land infertility and other reasons.
According to an official statistics, released by Divisional Commissioner Official here on Thursday, a total of 74 farmers had committed suicide in eight districts till February 5. The highest number of 14 suicides were reported in Osmanabad District and lowest five suicide cases were reported in Hingoli District.
This was followed by 12 suicides each in Jalna and Beed District, nine suicides in Aurangabad District, eight suicides in Latur District and six in Nanded District. The report further stated that of the 74 suicide cases, 11 were found liable for compensation and compensation amount was already paid in six cases to the next of victim kin by the respective district administration.
