1.2 cr saplings to be planted in HP: Minister

Kangra, Aug 6 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Social Justice and Women Empowerment Minister Sarveen Chaudhary on Thursday said the government is making special efforts to increase the forest cover area in the state and this year a target has been set to plant 1.20 crore saplings of different species in the state because the forests contribute significantly to climate balance.
Stating this while speaking at a plantation program organised by the Forest Department at Harchakkien of Shahpur assembly constituency, the Minister said a target has been set to plant 12 lakh saplings in 26.5 hectare forest area in Kangra district. Cedar, medicinal and broad leaf plants will be planted in it.
She said the target of planting trees has been set in the Kangra district in more than double the area of 1200 hectares last year. She informed that a target has been set to plant 2500 saplings in 5 hectare area in Shahpur forest division.
