Iran's supreme leader says country has "extinguished sedition"

Tehran, Jan. 17 (UN): Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said on Saturday that Iran had defeated the United States and Israel "once again" and had "extinguished the sedition" he alleged was incited by Washington and Tel Aviv.
Speaking during an address marking a religious holiday, Khamenei's remarks came as Iranian authorities appeared to have brought the weeks-long nationwide protests under control.

Museveni wins Uganda's presidential election

Kampala, Jan. 17 (UNI): Uganda's incumbent President Yoweri Museveni won the country's presidential election, the Electoral Commission (EC) said on Saturday as it released the final results at the National Tally Center in the capital, Kampala.
Announcing the outcome, EC Chairperson Simon Byabakama said Museveni secured 71.6 percent of the total votes tallied in Thursday's poll.
