UP targets to generate 22k MW solar energy in next 5 yrs

Lucknow, Nov 16 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh government has set a target of generating 22,000 mega watt (MW) solar energy in the next five years.
The new Solar Policy 2022 was approved in the state cabinet meeting, which was chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday.
Giving details of the policy, Energy Minister of the state AK Sharma said, "In the new policy a target of generating 22,000 MW solar energy in the next five years has been fixed. Of this 14,000 MW through solar parks and open areas, 4,500 MW from solar roof top (residential) and 1,500 MW from non-residential roof tops."
He said in addition to, a target of generating 2,000 MW solar energy has been fixed from the solar plants installed in the fields of the farmers and agriculture feeder. "As per the policy the government will also help and provide incentive in making arrangements for storage of solar energy," he said.
Sharma said it has been decided that in case a solar project is set up in backward areas like Bundelkhand and Purvanchal the government will bear the cost of setting up transmission lines up to 20 kilometers. "It will depend on the size of the solar project. If a project is of 5 MW then 10 km transmission lines will be constructed. Similarly if the project is of 50 MW or more a transmission network of 20 km will be provided. It involves an expenditure of around Rs 65 to Rs 70 lakhs," he said.
He said for the setting up of solar parks it has been decided that in case it is being done by a public enterprise then the government land will be given on a lease of Re 1 per acre. "In case of the private sector the land will be provided on a lease of Rs 15,000 per acre," he said.
The Minister said in the new policy facility of net-metering will be given to the people who install solar panels on their rooftops. "Till now a facility of net-billing was being given, but now the facility of net-metering will also be extended," he said.
He said to benefit the farmers two new elements have been added in the new policy. "For the farmers belonging to scheduled caste and Tribes like Musahar and Vantangiya, who want to install solar plants in their fields, 100 per cent rebate will be given. For other categories of farmers 90 per cent will be given by the government and 10 per cent will be charged from them. A solar plant cost around Rs 5.50 to 6 lakh," he said.
Sharma said it has also been decided to develop all the Municipal Corporations in the state as solar cities. "But for that at least 10 per cent of the power consumption in that corporation should come in the form of solar energy. Besides, the corporation will be given a subsidy of Rs 100 per person based on the 2011 census," he said.
He said exemption in stamp duty and electricity duty will be given on the land allotment for setting up solar parks. "We expect that the policy will generate employment opportunities for 30,000 youths, who will be named as Surya Mitra. The policy will create a burden of Rs 7,700 crore on the state exchequer," he said.
