Three remote hamlets in M M Hills Wildlife Sanctuary provided road connectivity

Chmarajanagara, Oct 13 (UNI) Three Hamlets of M M Hills Wildlife Sanctuary in the district, with about 200 families, have provided last mile road connectivity for the first time to ensure access for better amenities and facilities.
The authorities have laid 6.3 km jungle road at a cost of Rs 5.28 lakh and have also introduced a ‘pick-up and drop’ service to ease the commuting woes of the locals. Three Hamlets deep within the M M Hills forest — Kokkabare, Tokere and Doddaane — lacked any last-mile connectivity, given the harsh terrain and dense forests.
As a result, the locals were forced to walk 2 km to 4 km to reach the nearest point from where they could hire a vehicle for their onward journey. In case of medical emergency, they had to be carried by others as ambulances could not reach them. There was always threat of wild elephants attacking them. Recently, two people were trampled to death by a herd of elephants while the villagers were returning to their village.
