Telangana CM  launches ‘Mahalakshmi & Rajiv Aarogyasri' schemes

Hyderabad, Dec 9 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy launched the 'Mahalakshmi and Rajiv Aarogyasri Health Insurance' schemes here on Saturday.
Under the Mahalakshmi scheme, girls, women and transgender persons in all the age groups in the state can travel free of cost in TSRTC buses.
The Rajiv Aarogysari Health Scheme provides Rs 10 lakh insurance to the beneficiaries and these two are among the six guarantees announced by Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to the people at an election campaign in September.
The Mahalakshmi scheme is set to put a burden of Rs 3,000 crore on the state every year, according to TSRTC sources.
After taking oath in the assembly earlier in the day, Revanth Reddy along with Deputy Chief Minister Malli Bhatti Vikramarka and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, formally launched the schemes at Assembly premises on the occasion of 77th birthday of Sonia Gandhi.
Under Rajiv Arogyasri health insurance Scheme, it provides Rs 10 lakh assistance to the poor and downtrodden and ensure quality treatment.
Under the Maha Lakshmi scheme, zero tickets were issued to Ministers D Anasuya (Seethakka), Konda Surekha and Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy stated that the Congress government was committed to fulfill the six guarantees as promised to the people in 100 days.
The Chief Minister along with his cabinet colleagues and newly elected MLAs travelled on the bus till BR Ambedkar Statue at Tank Bund, where he garlanded the statue of Ambedkar, and returned to the Assembly. Later Revanth Reddy left for the Secretariat.
Welcoming the Mahalakshmi scheme, Palakurthy MLA Yeshashwani Reddy said it would benefit women a lot, especially college students and rural women.
Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) Managing Director and Vice Chairman V C Sajjanar had earlier said above 7000 buses will be made available after the scheme was launched and the buses will be increased if necessary.
Women contribute to 40 per cent of patronage and this may go up to 55 per cent .We will issue zero cost tickets to women upon submitting their ID proofs, he added.
