Scheme for startups IP protection extended from April '20 to March '23: MoS Commerce

New Delhi, Dec 1 (UNI) To strengthen the intellectual property rights (IPR) and start-up ecosystem in the country, applications filed through the Technology and Innovations Support Centres (TISCs) established by collaboration between the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), will be able to avail the benefit of the scheme for facilitating startups intellectual property protection (SIPP) which was initiated, on a pilot basis in 2016.
The SIPP scheme was run for the benefit of start-ups, by providing for facilitators like registered patent agents, registered trade mark agents, lawyers and government organisations like TIFAC, NRDC who would provide their professional services to the startups but claim their fees from the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks based on the experience gained.
The SIPP scheme has been further extended from 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2020 and further from 1 April 2020 till 31 March 2023, Minister of State, Commerce and Industry Som Parkash informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
