Parliament passes Indian Medical Council (Amendment) Bill

New Delhi, Jul 4 (UNI) The Parliament on Thursday gave its nod to the Indian Medical Council (Amendment ) Bill 2019 that aims at bringing in transparency, accountability and quality in the governance of medical education in the country and provides for supersession of the Medical Council of India (MCI) for a period of two years from September.
This Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on July 2 and this will replaces the Government’s Ordinance promulgated on February 21.
Responding to an almost three hours debate on draft Bill in the Rajya Sabha, the Union Heath and Family Welfare Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said the Bill would bring in radical reform in the country's medical education system and urged the members to pass it unanimously as it was in public interest.
