Odisha cabinet approves new Food Security scheme to cover 34.44 lakh beneficiaries

Bhubaneswar, Jul 30 (UNI) Odisha Cabinet today approved a Food Security scheme announced by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday last to cover 34.44 lakh beneficiaries left out the in the National Food Security Act(NFSA).
Briefing news persons after the Cabinet meeting Chief Secretary A P Padhi said Chief Minister had announced the Food Security scheme as the central government did not consider the state government’s request to increase upper ceiling of NFSA to additional 34.44 lakh as per the increase in population.
In 2011, as per central government’s direction 3,26,41,800 beneficiaries, almost 78 per cent of the 2011 population of 4,19,74,218 were covered under the NFSA .
