Iraqi armed forces sign training agreement with NATO

Cairo, June 27 (UNI/Sputnik) The Iraqi armed forces signed an agreement with NATO to conduct training of the country’s troops by the alliance’s experts, spokesman for Iraq's Joint Operations Command Tahsin al-Khafaji said on Monday.
"Lt. Gen. Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, Chief of Staff of the Army, and the NATO's commander in Iraq, Lt. Gen. Giovanni Maria Iannucci, signed a memorandum of understanding to include Baghdad in the NATO codification system," al-Khafaji said, as quoted by the Shafaq news agency.
In April 2020, foreign ministers of the NATO countries agreed to expand the mission in Iraq. In particular, the ministers agreed that the NATO mission would train non-commissioned officers, bomb squads and the Iraqi Federal Police.
