Brexit Deal: May says not expecting 'breakthrough'

London, Dec 13 (UNI) UK Prime Minister Theresa May on Thursday said that she was not expecting a 'breakthrough' on the Brexit agreement at this week's EU summit in Brussels, adding that she would focus on the assurances over the 'backstop' plan to avoid a manned Irish border.
PM May has arrived at the EU summit after surviving a vote of confidence organised by the lawmakers from her Conservative Party.
"What I will be talking to European leaders about here today is about what I think we need to get this deal over the line ... I will be showing the legal and political assurances that I believe we need to assuage the concerns that members of parliament have on this issue ... I don't expect an immediate breakthrough but what I do hope is that we can start the work as quickly as possible on the assurances that are necessary," May told reporters.
