Bangladesh general elections: Armed forces to be deployed from Jan 3

Dhaka, Jan 2 (UNI) With Bangladesh slated to hold countywide general elections on January 7, the authorities have decided to deploy the armed forces from Wednesday to assist the civil administration in conducting free, fair, and peaceful polls, according to an official statement.
The forces will help the Election Commission and the civil administration till January 10 to control law and order before, after, and during the polling day, said an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release on Tuesday.
The armed forces will be stationed at nodal points and other convenient places in every district, sub-district and metropolitan area for the polls, which have been boycotted by the principal opposition, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
