Adhir's remarks against Thakur expunged in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Sep 19 (UNI) Speaker Om Birla on Saturday expunged the remarks made by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury for Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur.
During the debate on The Taxation and Other Laws (Relaxation and Amendment of Certain Provisions) Bill, 2020, in the Lok Sabha, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman asked Mr Chowdhury not to undermine any member in the House, which has seen many wonderful and eminent people.
Lashing out at Mr Chowdhury, she said, 'My colleague with fairly parliamentary experience' should not try to undermine any member.
'There was a high drama in the Lok Sabha on Friday, when Mr Thakur made disparaging remarks about the Nehru-Gandhi family, which led to several adjournments and the Congress leader has used the word against Mr Thakur.
'Let us not do anything to undermine each other. This House has seen wonderful and eminent people. We have worked for this (place),' she added.
Ms Sitharaman said her colleague is 'a four-time MP, may look young, but he is an experienced person.'
'You are an opposition leader. I want to give respect to you....,' she maintained.
She appealed to the Chair to withdraw the comment.
Ms Sitharaman asked Trinamool Congress member Saugata Roy, who tried to speak, to be patient.
The Speaker said that the objectionable word may be expunged.
