9 women 'drugged' at gathering of Germany's ruling party

Berlin, July 12 (UNI) Nine women have alleged they were drugged by an unknown substance after attending the annual summer party of Germany Chancellor Olaf Scholz's Social Democratic Party (SDP) last week.
CNN quoted a police report as stating that a 21-year-old woman started to feel "unwell and dizzy" on Wednesday evening after eating and drinking at the party. The woman, who did not remember the previous day's events, had herself examined in hospital and later filed a complaint with Berlin police.
Police said that a toxic substance was found in the woman's blood explaining her symptoms and amnesia.
The report said, "The task forces initiated an investigation procedure because of dangerous bodily injury against unknown and ordered a blood withdrawal, which was still accomplished in the hospital, for the purpose of toxicological analysis."
Four more cases were reported to the Criminal Investigation Department. An SPD spokesman said that the reported cases have increased to nine.
CNN quoted SPD spokesperson as saying: "We encourage the victims who were attacked to come forward and press charges. Since the beginning, we have supported the police to the best of our ability to ensure that this terrible incident is resolved."
In a tweet, SPD parliamentary group director Katja Mast said: "We are all appalled by this unbelievable event and will do everything in our power to clear it up."
According to CNN, about 1,000 guests attended the annual summer party which took place next to the Chancellery in Berlin. The Chancellor had also attended the party, the SPD spokesperson said.
