New Delhi, Nov 25 (UNI) Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi today emphasised the need for an inclusive, error-free electoral rolls, having a voter-centric orientation along with the focus on institutional strengthening at Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) level. Dr Zaidi stated this at a two-day Annual Chief Electoral Officers’ Conference of all States and Union Territories organised by Election Commission of India (ECI) , which concluded here today. He talked about the need to strengthen the mechanism with regard to election management while holding steadfast to the age old electoral value of free, fair and peaceful elections. Dr Zaidi said the election process should be transparent and accountable. The objective of the conference was to review performance with regard to ongoing election related programmes as well as to explore new initiatives and improve the election management and voter experience. Speaking at the occasion, Election Commissioner AK Joti emphasised on the use of technology for streamlining the electoral process and emphasised on the significance of GIS system. He also flagged voter awareness, expenditure monitoring mechanism and the use of IT as important areas of attention for election administrators. Welcoming the participants in his opening address, Deputy Election Commissioner (ECI) Vijay Dev talked about the conference being an opportunity for all stakeholders present to improve upon the varied aspects of election management including the EVM, VVPAT, Training, electoral roll, MIS, Voter awareness and media oriented issues.
