Withdraw enhanced VAT on Petrol, Diesel : BJP urges CM

Puducherry, May 29 (UNI) Puducherry unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday urged Chief Minister V Narayanasamy to withdraw the enhanced Value Added Tax (VAT) on Petrol and Diesel.
In a statement here, BJP state President V Saminathan MLA said instead of mobilizing revenue by way of collecting pending power tariff, Cable TV tax, granting liquor shops through open tender and withdrawing the 25 percent GLR value announced to favour some real estate owners, the government had put the burden on the common man who are using mainly two-wheelers.
He said to tide over the financial crisis, the government for the next two years should cancel all luxury functions and adopt austerity measures.
