With the SC staying HC order, election process has been restored: Goa AG

Panaji, Mar 4 (UNI) Goa Advocate General Devidas Pangam on Thursday said that with the Supreme Court order staying the verdict of the Bombay High Court's Goa bench, which had set aside a notification of the State Urban Development ministry on reservation of wards in five municipal councils, the election process has been restored.
Speaking to reporters, he said,''Today the Supreme Court stayed the High Court order. As a result, the election process has been restored and the democratic process started. Matter has been now fixed for final hearing by the Supreme Court for Tuesday. We are very hopeful that we will succeed in the matter in the Supreme Court because in our view High Court should not have interfered because elections are foundation of democracy. All over the world there in no interference in the election process, whatsoever. If there is interference in the election matters, then it is interference in the democracy. Democracy rests on the elected representatives' of the people. For the smooth functioning of democracy elected representatives need to be put to their respective positions in time and at the earliest. This principle has been evolved over the period of centuries.''
''We are very hopeful that we will succeed before the Supreme Court and the democratic process will be continued and completed at the earliest so that rights of the people and voters are in no manner affected,'' he said.
