WEF 2020: Karnataka CM assures support for industry growth

Davos, Jan 24 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who is heading a delegation at World Economic Forum's annual meeting here, during discussion with industry leaders and decision makers, assured all support for growth of industries in the state.

Companies which called on the Chief Minister on the Day three of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting were Gemini Corporation, Coca Cola Company, Uber, SAP Labs, General Electric (GE), Swiss Re and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

During his interaction with the industry leaders, the Chief Minister sought to understand their expansion plans in Karnataka and assured support for growth of industry in the state. Sustainable development was a key theme as the Chief Minister met companies working in circular economy, energy and mobility.

Uber CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi discussed his expansion plans in Bengaluru and assured the Chief Minister of investment in the State.

The CM also met Mr William ‘Mo’ Cowan from GE, who discussed their ideas for development of healthcare sector, power transmission and on-shore wind energy.

The representatives from Coca Cola shared their plans to invest US Dollar 25 million initially and increase it to US Dollar 200 million by creating more benefits for farmers, providing access to clean water for villages and community and others.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister attended the Panel Discussion on Strategic Outlook: India for USDollar 5 trillion economy for India. The panelists in the session included Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, State Bank of India Chairman Rajnish Kumar and Naspers CEO Bob van Dijk.
'It is important to highlight that all economic activities in India happen in its States. The States of India will be the driving force for achieving this goal of USD 5 trillion economy. My home state of Karnataka has a State GDP of USD 250 billion and is growing at over 9 per cent. We are here at the World Economic Forum to meet with investors and industry to invite them to invest and grow their business in India.' Yediyurappa said.
The delegation included Mr Jagadish Shettar, Minister for Large and Medium Scale Industries, T M Vijay Bhaskar, Chief Secretary, Dr. E. V. Ramana Reddy, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of IT, BT and S & T, Gaurav Gupta, Principal Secretary – Commerce & Industries, Dr S Selvakumar, Secretary to the Chief Minister, Gunjan Krishna, Commissioner for Industrial Development and other senior State Government officers.
