Water level in dams reaches overflow mark; Thane, Palghar villagers alerted

Thane, Jul 15 (UNI) A total of 75 villages on the river banks in the districts of Thane and Palghar have been put on a high alert, as the water level in Modak Sagar and Tansa dams of Shahapur taluka reached the overflow mark on Monday and was likely to overflow any time soon, due to heavy rains in the region, a senior official of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) warned.
According to chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of TMC Santosh Kadam, the Collectors of Thane and Palghar have been asked to alert the villagers residing near the banks of Tansa and Vaitarna rivers, regarding the possible floods.
He said a statement by the Water Supply Department of Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (BMC) informed on Monday that the water level in Modak Sagar is 160.842 MTHD, as against the overflow level of 163.147 MTHD. Similarly, the water level in Tansa is 126.781 MTHD, versus the overflow level of 128.62 MTHD, he added.
