New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu paid his respects to Sant Ravidas on his 644th birth anniversary on Saturday and said that his teachings are relevant even today.
"Sant Ravidas was a great social reformer," said Mr Naidu in a message, "I bow to the spiritual leader and great social reformer Saint Ravidas Ji on his birth anniversary," adding, "His voice against social discrimination is more relevant today."
The vice president also wrote the famous couplet by Sant Ravidas in the message, "Jaati-jaati mein jaati hai, jo ketan ke paat, Raidas Manush na jud sake, jab tak jaati na jaat" where the saint has compared caste with banana tree's trunk which has layers of green leaves below leaves. He says the caste is also similar as there are castes below castes which has divided humanity and in the end, there is nothing left but only caste.
