Mumbai, Aug 24 (UNI) Veteran Marathi actor Vijay Chavan passed away here on Friday following a prolonged illness.
He was 63.
The versatile actor, who was seen not only in drama but films and serial also, died at Fortis hospital in Mulund.
He was in this field for more than 40 years and was known for his comic roles in films such as 'Jatra', 'Zapatlela', 'Pachadlele', 'Mumbaicha Dabewala' and will always be remembered for his outstanding contribution to Marathi films.
One of his most memorable plays was 'Moruchi Mavshi, where he played a woman. 'Moruchi Mavshi, was a milestone of his life, after that his name reached to the heart of the Marathi Manoos.
Chavan has acted in more than 400 Marathi films and won numerous prestigious awards. Recently, he was conferred 'Chitrapati V Shantaram Jeevengaurav' award by the state government.
The funeral will be performed this afternoon, family sources said.
