Various programmes planned to mark birth centenary year of late Shankarrao Chavan

Nanded, Jan 24 (UNI) To mark the birth centenary year of former Union minister late Shankarrao Chavan, various programmes have been planned in the state.
PWD and Guardian Minister Ashok Chavan will take a review of various programmes that are planned to mark the birth centenary of his father.
Among the various programmes that are planned include to bring out a special issue of ‘Lokrajya’, dedicated to the leader, by the Directorate of Information & Public Relations.
A memorial will be erected near ‘Shankar Sagar’ at Vishnupuri irrigation project by the Rural Development and Public Works Departments.
A special library will also be started by the Department of Higher & Technical Education, which will be assisted by the PWD.
As per a resolution passed by the Cabinet of Ministers in the year 2009-10, a Police Training Centre will be started by the Home department.
Newly instituted ‘Jal Bhushan Puraskar’ will be given to a person for outstanding work in the field of water conservation and water supply from the current year.
Born on July 14, 1920, Shankarrao Chavan rose to become the Union Home minister from being a member of state Assembly, of Lok Sabha and that of Rajya Sabha.
He took active participation in the Hyderabad Freedom Struggle under the guidance of late freedom fighter Swami Ramananda Teertha.
Mr Chavan is called as ‘Father of Water Conservation’ as he had initiated various irrigation projects in the state to irrigate agricultural fields during his tenure as the chief minister.

Ahmedabad, Feb 18 (UNI) A Bengaluru-bound flight of private airliner Go Air from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad with 180 people on board, suffered a bird hit and sustained damage in it's engine during the take-off roll on Tuesday, Airport Director Manoj Gangal said.
