Balasore, June 3 (UNI) Asserting the urgent need to prioritise the Railways to enhance efficiency, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday iterated that as former Railway Minister with an understanding of internal workings, she strongly advocated better coordination to prevent accidents that risk innocent lives.
Banerjee, who rushed to the accident site at Bahanaga in Odisha's Balasore to to oversee the search and rescue operations following the ghastly train accident on Friday in which at least 261 people lost their lives and more than 900 injured, categorically stated had there been an anti- collision device, this major accident could have been averted.
She announced a financial assistance of ₹ 5 Lakh to every affected family from Bengal and also requested the Railway Minister to provide aid.
