UP BJP MLA thrashes forest SI

Ballia, Oct 6 (UNI) BJP MLA from Bairiya Assembly constituency in Ballia, Surendra Singh, once again came to limelight when he and his aides allegedly assaulted a forest sub-inspector, who were collecting taxes from trucks carrying red sand after mining from the local river.
The incident took place last night and the victim was admitted in district hospital. Interestingly while the DFO, NK Singh, said to be investigating the matter, the MLA alleged that the Forest officials were engaged in extorting money through illegal mining. Surendra Singh also sat on dharna in front of Forest Office demanding action against the guilty forest officials.
It may be mentioned that Surendra Singh was in news recently for holding a 7-kilometre long human chain to protest against his own Yogi Adityanath Government for not utilising the fund sanctioned for relief to flood victims.
He said over 1.5 lakh people of his constituency were affected by flood due to overflowing Ganga and ghagra rivers and that government had sanctioned Rs 29 crore to forward relief to the villagers but the administration so far not invested a single paise on it.
In the fresh matter, SI in Forest Department, Santosh Kumar claimed that he was checking trucks carrying red sand after mining from rivers in neighbouring Bihar state when Surendra Singh reached the venue (Chiraiya Turning in Bairiya locality of Ballia) along with his henchmen last night.
He charged that the MLA and his aides had brutally assaulted him in which he also received a fracture on his legs. Injured Santosh Singh was admitted in District Hospital. When the local forest officials protested the incident, local DFO, NK Singh, started the probe so that further legal proceedings could be initiated in the matter against all those who will be held guilty in the enquiry. No case was registered with the local Bairiya police station.
Reports said the matter also took a controversial turn when Surendra Singh denying of assaulting anyone, had also sat on dharna in front of Forest Department office at Balia this morning. He alleged that the employees were engaged in extortion and that unless they will be not punished for facilitating illegal mining in the area, he will not called off his protest.
