Two kg of heroin seized near the Myanmar border in Mizoram

Aizawl, Mar 28(UNI) In one of the most significant seizures to date, the Mizoram Excise & Narcotics Department intercepted a car on the highway connecting Champhai to the border town of Zokhawthar and seized 2.475 KG of heroin from near the Myanmar border in the eastern region of Mizoram's Champhai district on Thursday.
According to spokesperson Peter Zohmingthanga, heroin was seized from the possession of Lalruatmawi, a 29-year-old national of Myanmar. The heroin, meticulously hidden within 202 soap cases, was discreetly stowed away inside an India-registered car.
The Myanmar national has been charged under the Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, of 1985. If proven guilty, he could face a prison sentence ranging from 10 to 20 years, accompanied by a fine ranging from Rs 1 to 2 lakh, he said.
