Tripura seeks special package of Rs 8389.71 Cr for tribal area development

Agartala, Jan 3 (UNI) The state council of ministers in an unscheduled meeting headed by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb recently approved the proposal of Rs 8389.71 crorer under various projects for socio-economic, cultural and linguistic development of indigenous people of Tripura as per pre-poll commitment of BJP.
The tribal based Indigenous Peoples’ Front of Tripura (IPFT) had forged alliance with BJP in last assembly election held February last year and accordingly in September last year Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has constituted a high power committee headed by it’s Special Secretary (Internal Security) Rina Mitra and senior officials of different ministries and the state government.
The committee was assigned to recommend the action plan and strategies to address the developmental problems of socio-economic, cultural and linguistic issues. The committee had detailed discussion on the issues with different stakeholders of the state and also accepted a large number of memorandums from different political parties, intellectuals and social organisations about socio-economic, cultural and linguistic issues of tribal people.
