Tripura CPM observes demand day despite attacks

Agartala, Jun 16 (UNI) The ruling BJP has been accused of perpetrating attack on CPI (M) leaders and ransacked their party office at Bishalgarh today in broad daylight during the demonstration as part of their nationwide programme to press for four points charter of demands.
The CPI (M) leaders alleged that a group of agitated BJP workers went inside the party office complex in Bishalgarh market when a few CPI (M) supporters were demonstrating there wiring festoons and policemen were on duty. They destroyed two motorbikes and utensils in the kitchen but police were silent spectators. The agitators somehow ran away from the spot but 65-yrs old CPI (M) leader Santosh Biswas was caught by the unruly cadres and he was assaulted in front of police. Later, when another group of CPI (M) workers raised resistance they fled away, alleged former minister and CPI (M) state committee member Bhanu Lal Saha.
“I am surprised to see the role of police. In broad daylight, miscreants holding BJP flags and raising slogan of the party ransacked a political party office and assaulted a senior citizen but policemen on duty to provide security to us were mum. In last 27 months, this particular party office was attacked by BJP for eight times and more than 25 of our local leaders were beaten up and we lodged FIR – none was arrested yet, which shows the danger of democracy,” Saha said.
