Entertainment » OtherPosted at: Oct 17 2017 9:13PM Transgender elected Sarpanch of Solapur villageSolapur, Oct 17 (UNI) For the first time in the electoral history of Maharashtra, a 35-year-old transgender was elected on Tuesday as a Sarpanch of Tarangfal village which falls in Malshiras taluka of Solapur district.Newly-elected Dnyaneshwar Shankar Kamble alias Mauli would be the first transgender who was elected as Sarpanch on a BJP ticket in the gram panchayat election of the state, the sources in election office said.Mauli Kamble said, "I got 854 votes out of 2,000 and won the election. I defeated rival candidate Jaysingh Salve of Rashtrawadi Congress Party. Although I am an illiterate person, all villagers took efforts for me and voted for me. I had never been in politics before."
