Tourism Malaysia aims to grab 15.6 mn Intl tourist arrivals in 2023

Hyderabad, Feb 3 (UNI): Tourism Malaysia on Friday announced the target to welcome 15.6 million International tourists in 2023 against more than 7 million international tourist arrivals in 2022.
Addressing at a press conference on the sidelines of its third roadshow held here on Friday along with the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), Tourism Malaysia Senior Deputy Director of International Promotion (Asia and Africa) Mohd Amirul Rizal Abdul Rahim said India has been one of the top sources market for Malaysia and has contributed over 7.35 lakh arrivals, an increase by 22.5 percent and RM3.6 billion tourism expenditure in 2019, an increase of 33.4 percent. .
The road show aims to provide a platform for the industry community to steer the tourism sector to greater heights, he said the pandemic has been tremendously challenging for us, but ever since the reopening of our international border in April, 2022.
The roadshows will be held in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Ahmedabad till Feb 7, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Tourism Malaysia Director General Dato’ Zainuddin Abdul Wahab, said Tourism Malaysia is ramping up its marketing efforts globally, including raising Malaysia’s profile in the India market.
India remains an important market for Malaysia and in terms of connectivity, there are currently 169 flights per week from India to Malaysia via Malaysia airlines, Batik Air (formerly known as Malindo Air), AirAsia and Indigo, he added.
