Syska, 2 foreign cos to invest Rs 200 cr for first camera module factory; expect revenue of Rs 2000 cr in next 3-4 yrs

New Delhi, Sep 14 (UNI) Soon, India will get its first camera module factory to empower the growing demands of locals and manufacturers of electronic components.
Indian company Syska Group in partnership with Singapore-based Biometronic Pte Ltd and Suyin Optronics, Corp of Taiwan will set up first camera module factory in Noida with the total investment of $30 million (approx INR 200 crores) for this project.
"This investment which will be utilised in three phases. And we expect to generate revenue of Rs 1900-2000 cr in next three to four years. Suyin Optronics will manufacture camera modules for mobile phones, automotive industry (Rear view camera), medical, security industry (CCTV) and defense industry (Drones).
"The factory will have a clean room for an installed production capacity of 5 million pieces per month and an expansion plan to set up the first COB (chip-on-board) plant for image sensors with an installed capacity of 10 million pieces per month," said Syska Director Rajesh Uttamchandani.
"A Center of Excellence (COE) will also be set-up to enable indigenous design and development capability which will constitute a collaborative effort with the industry to develop solutions for optical, mechanical and sensor packaging throughputs.
"Also to support government’s initiative of Make in India, this is for the first time that a camera module factory is being set up in India by a global player. Around 600 skilled workers would get employment through this joint venture wherein Syska Group has 49 pc stake in the company whereas Biometronic has 41 pc stake and Suyin Optronics has 10 pc stake in the new entity," said Biometronic Pte. Ltd. Promoter and Managing Director Prabhu Sridharan.
"Recently, the government has given a nod to legalise drones and this gives Suyin Optronics an added advantage to manufacture drone cameras in India," said Mr Uttamchandani.
"India’s economic growth of 7.4pc, its domestic consumer electronic demands and the governments encouragement of foreign companies to localize production has provided to us an opportune moment to establish a sound manufacturing base that will be self-sufficient through technology development and research,” said Chairman of Suyin Optronics Corp Gary Lee.
"We have already signed up wih Chinese and domestic handset vendors also," concluded Mr Uttamchandani.
