Jammu, Sep 12 (UNI) A man got injured as suspected terrorists opened fire when a truck they were travelling in was intercepted for routine checking at a checkpoint near Jhajjar Kotli here on city outskirts.
“A cordon and search operation has been launched in Jhajar Kotli area on city outskirts along Jammu-Srinagar National Highway after some suspected terrorists were seen in the area this morning,” police sources here said.
They said that some suspects were intercepted by police on a checkpost at around 0800 hours while firing incident was also reported when police intercepted a truck near the checkpost.
“One AK rifle and three magazines have been recovered while driver and conductor of the truck used by suspects have been taken into custody and are being questioned,” said police adding that two-three suspected terrorists who fled from the spot are being chased.
Police, Amy and CRPF are activated and the cordon and search operation is at Suketar village near Katra-- base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine is in progress.
Alert has also been sounded at the Vaishno Devi Shrine and Katra and schools nearby have been closed.
Sources said that AK rifle, one pistol, six grenades, explosives and other material was recovered from the truck during search.
“One person believed to be security guard of sericulture department is also reported to be injured in the firing and he has been hospitalised,” they added and said that the search operation was in progress.
