Surgical strikes, the day after: Euphoria grips India; Durga Puja festival gets underway; Security stepped up; Tension on borders; Pakistan PM cries foul

New Delhi, Sep 30 (UNI)A day after surgical strikes by Indian Army's special teams in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and neutralisation of seven launch pads of terrorists in pre-down swoops, a tit for tat refrain gripped the nation and speculation mounted over exact number of “significant casualties”. Tight security paraphernalia was mounted across the nation to foil any disruptive activity by Pakistan-trained terrorists as an act of reprisal of strikes during annual Navratra and Durga puja festivities. Some TV channels, quoting reports on basis of satellite images, said more than 50 terrorists were killed, but there was no official confirmation.Graphic details of the strikes were yet to emerge. Death toll in the September 18 Uri attack by the Pakistani side rose to 19 with a jawan succumbing to his multiple injuries at the Army's research and referral hospital.A soldier from Bihar Regiment, Naik Raj Kishor Singh, was being treated here after he was brought from Srinagar. The martyr hailed from Piprpati village in Bhojpu district of Bihar. He is survived by his wife Kanchan Singh. Mortal remains of the soldier will be taken to his home for the cremation. Rejecting "black propaganda" war being waged by Pakistan through fake videos on news channels and social media in the aftermath of surgical strikes, the Indian Army today said only one member of the of team involved in the operation received minor injury during exfiltration. Sources in the Army told UNI that another soldier of 37 Rashtriya Rifles inadvertently crossed over to Pakistani side of the LoC in Mendhar Sector. There is no more attrition to own troops of any kind," said the sources. Requesting the media not to attribute or circulate the videos being telecast on Pakistani TV channels, the sources said these were morphed or doctored to falsely projected Indian Army casualties. The strikes were carried out ten days after the attack on an Army base at Uri in Jammu and Kashmir. Initially, 17 soldiers were killed and 20 injured in the URI attack on September 18. Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif apprised the Federal Cabinet of the latest development along the LoC, and said that his country will take all necessary steps to protect its people and territorial integrity in case of any aggression or violation of the Line of Control. According to Pakistani daily ' Dawn,' Mr Sharif said Islamabad would defend against any aggression and the entire country was standing along with the armed forces. Theatre owners in Karachi and other Pakistani cities said they would stop screening Bollywood movies as a mark of solidarity with the country's armed forces, Terming Kashmir an unfinished agenda of partition, Mr Sharif accused India of committing atrocities and suppressing the movements of Kashmiri people. The Pakistan Federal Cabinet while rejecting India's surgical strikes on terror launch pads across the LoC, as just a "claim", accused New Delhi of opening fire across the LoC and killing two Pakistani soldiers. The Cabinet said, "India had acted in complete violation of her commitments under bilateral arrangements as well as international law". Mr Sharif said in order to achieve the government's goal of eliminating poverty and unemployment, peace was essential, but stated that in the face of hostility, the country would have to be protected.
