New Delhi, Sep 1 (UNI) Sunil Arora today assumed charge as the new Election Commissioner of India, here. Government yesterday appointed the former bureaucrat as the new Election Commissioner. At present, Chief Election Commissioner is Achal Kumar Joti while Om Prakash Rawat is the other Election Commissioner. Born on April 13, 1956, Mr Arora, 1980 batch IAS officer from Rajasthan cadre, superannuated on April 30, 2016 as Secretary, in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. During 36 years of his long service, he held various crucial positions in State Government of Rajasthan and in the Central Government, the Election Commission said in a statement. Prior to joining as Election Commissioner, Mr Arora was serving as Director General (DG), Ministry of Corporate Affairs since December 15, 2016 after his superannuation. He served in several key positions namely Secretary in the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Chairman and Managing Director of the then Indian Airlines between 2002 to 2005, member of Board of Directors of Air India, Airport Authority of India Ltd and National Skill Development Corporation etc. At the State level, Mr Arora served as Chairman of Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO) between 2005 and 2013, Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Government of Rajasthan between 2013 to 2014 and in several other important positions.
