An interesting shift has been noticed in this year’s Ganesh Idol market. Due to several awareness campaigns run by NGOs and other welfare organizations, Punekar are keener to purchase eco-friendly Ganesh idols to commemorate the festivities.
The Demand for clay and mud idols has gone up and vendors have been getting orders to create customized idols since April. Even though these idols are fragile and have fever design options as compared to Pop ones, people are showing greater willingness to install them.
Aditya Bhide, owner of Ganesh Kala Kendra at sadashiv peth, offers only mud-based, organic colour idols at his shop. He said, “we have been in business for 11 years now and have constantly seen a rise in the demand for eco- friendly idols. As compared to last year, this year has seen a dramatic hike in the number of customers opting for mud or clay idols. Last year, we sold 7,000 idols during the festive season. This year, the number has already crossed 10,000, Bhide added.
