Sri Lankan PM Ranil Wickremesinghe to resign

Colombo, July 9 (UNI) Ranil Wickremesinghe on Saturday confirmed that he would resign as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.
Wickremesinghe said in a tweet, "To ensure the continuation of the Government including  the safety of all citizens I accept the best recommendation of the Party Leaders today, to make way for an All-Party Government".
"To facilitate this I will resign as Prime Minister," he added.
Earlier in the day, Sri Lanka witnessed violent protests in the capital Colombo with protesters demanding that president Gotabaya Rajapaksa and other rulers of the country step down from the their posts.
